Over 100 artisans from six districts of Rajasthan on Friday attended a one-day programme in Udaipur organised for sensitisation about some great benefits of geographical indication (GI).
Artisans from Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand and Udaipur attended the programme.
Within the programme organised by the Controller Normal of Patents, Designs and Logos, Authorities of India and the Industries division of Rajasthan authorities, artisans expressed curiosity to get GI registration for regional arts of Koftgari, Daboo Print, Pichwai Portray amongst others.
Geographical indication (GI) is an indication used on merchandise which have a particular geographical origin and possess qualities or a status which can be distinctive to that origin.
“The artisans have been instructed that GI ensures that the native artisans obtain the benefit of the mental heritage and the merchandise are recognized from area of their origin,” based on an official of the state Industries division.
At current, there are 15 merchandise of Rajasthan together with Bhujiya of Bikaner, Kota Doriya of Kota, Thewa artwork of Udaipur, and Marble from Makrana which have acquired the GI identification.
The artisans taking part within the programme have been defined in regards to the means of GI registration, identification of the product, documentation required and submitting course of.
